The Blonde Naso Tang is a breathtaking addition to the advanced marine aquarium, instantly commanding attention with its striking features and majestic presence. Known by other names like the Elegant Unicornfish or Indian Orange-spine Unicorn, this fish is a true spectacle in a large reef system.

Size & Habitat Requirements
This is not a fish for the faint of heart—or the small tank! The Blonde Naso is a powerful, active swimmer that can easily reach up to 18 inches (45 cm) in length. To ensure its health and well-being, a minimum tank size of 180 gallons is a crucial requirement.

Space is Life: In the wild (across the Indian Ocean, including the Maldives and Red Sea), Naso elegans spends its days constantly grazing and swimming. Failing to provide enough open swimming room in captivity will lead to high stress, stunted growth, and an increased susceptibility to common marine diseases like Ich.

Aquascape: Your tank should be aquascaped to provide a balance of ample open water and live rock formations for it to explore and retreat into when resting.

Temperament and Compatibility
Generally, the Blonde Naso Tang is considered semi-aggressive but often peaceful within a community tank setting.

Community Fish: It coexists well with non-tang species.

Surgeonfish: Be cautious when introducing it to other Tangs, especially those of similar shape, size, or species (Naso genus). They may become territorial, and you should introduce them simultaneously to spread aggression.

Reef Safe: This species is highly valued as an algae grazer and is considered reef compatible. A well-fed Naso will rarely bother corals or invertebrates.

Diet: The Key to Color and Immunity
As a dedicated herbivore, the Blonde Naso Tang's diet is the single most important factor for its long-term success. Their unique physiology means they require constant grazing to maintain a healthy digestive system and strong immune response.

Primary Food Source: The diet must be predominantly vegetable matter. Offer large sheets of dried marine algae (Nori) multiple times a day using a vegetable clip.

Supplements: Include high-quality algae-based flakes, pellets, and occasionally, frozen preparations like spirulina-enriched brine or mysis shrimp for added nutrition. A varied diet helps maintain their vibrant yellow dorsal fin and orange 'lipstick' mask.

Water Conditions & Care Level
This fish is rated as Difficult / Advanced due to its size, dietary needs, and sensitivity to poor water quality. Consistent, stable parameters are essential:

Temperature: Maintain a stable temperature between 72-78°F.

Pristine Water: Like all Surgeonfish, it requires excellent water conditions. Keep your nitrates low and your water highly oxygenated with strong flow.
